GREEN THE STREET
An initiative started in 2018 dedicated to greening Brisbane streets and a major activation and demonstration of future street design ‘Green the Street’ inspires Queenslander’s to reimagine what their street could be when designed around health and fitness, with an urban rainforest, street artworks, urban agriculture and augmented reality displays. Since 2018 green the street hosts debate nights, festivals and verge planting parties every year.
The aim is:
To make more safe, walkable and cyclable streets
To cool our city and suburbs
To create habitat corridors for wildlife, critters and pollinators (birds and bees)
To empower our communities to connect
To provide everyday interactions with nature
To showcase emerging technologies such as augmented reality, electric mobility, urban agriculture and how can be harnessed for good
Circ Design in 2022 is contributing to Green the Street by helping co-design the display and workshops alongside the RNA, presented by Brisbane City Council. Green the Street is a grass-roots organisation, but our partners include over 40 major institutions and organisations.
After the success in 2018 of Green the Street, Catherine was asked to design a new type of street for Brisbane City Council - the ‘Green Street’. To find out more see our project page on Bradshaw Street.
