BRADSHAW STREET
After the success in 2018 of Green the Street, Catherine whilst working at Hatch RobertsDay was asked by Brisbane City Council to envision a new street type for the North Brisbane Bikeway. Bradshaw Street’s speed was radically reduced to 30km/hr to encourage people to walk and cycle, the pavement was dramatically reduced in width to discourage speed and the verge expanded to allow for more shade, pocket parklets and areas for dining, rest, relaxation and the planting of native and urban agriculture flower beds.
Art markings to the pavement also indicate that the street is a low speed environment. The green street typology has now been replicated in other parts of the North Brisbane Bikeway demonstrating its success and popularity.
At consultation the project was exceedingly popular and has progressed to signoff for construction.
The aim is:
To make the street more safe, walkable and cyclable
To cool the street
To reduce the overall paving width
To create habitat corridors for wildlife, critters and pollinators (birds and bees)
To empower community connection
To provide everyday interactions with nature
New street typology for Brisbane
Dramatically increased planting areas
Areas for dining, rest, relaxation and play
Essential part of the North Brisbane Bikeway
